Professional Internship

The internship covered two main buildings within a larger residential estate: a greenhouse with accommodation, and driver/support facilities with sitting areas and bathrooms. Both were under construction at the time of this portfolio update.

My work developed architectural layouts and the drawings needed to describe them, while coordinating with structural requirements and contributing to initial MEP discussions about pipe routes and sanitary arrangements. The drawings form part of the work of the practice team.

The greenhouse combines a long cultivation and support area with upper-level accommodation. A repeated structural rhythm organizes the building, while the service and accommodation band introduces a different depth of room and circulation along one edge.

The plans establish boundaries, openings, stair position and grid references. Developing them alongside structural coordination meant that layout and technical requirements had to be read together.

Elevations and sections describe the roof geometry, openings and level relationships. Carrying these references across the drawing set is part of making architectural intent clear to the wider team.

The building is represented from its long side and both ends, so the envelope can be checked against the plans and the internal section.

Cross sections reveal relationships that the long elevation cannot show: the depth of the greenhouse, the accommodation edge and the position of the stair beneath the roof.

The section cuts provide another way to coordinate level references, openings and floor edges with the plans. They are architectural documentation prepared within the practice team, with structural and initial MEP coordination forming part of my internship contribution.

The stair and sanitary package takes the work from overall layout to the relationships between fixtures, dimensions and levels. Enlarged plans and sections describe the stair geometry and the arrangement of bathrooms.

These details were prepared in AutoCAD as part of the construction and shop-drawing work. The task required careful communication across different drawing scales, from the whole building to the sanitary core.

The smaller sanitary rooms use the same drawing discipline as the main bathroom package: fixture positions, room dimensions and interior faces are read as one coordinated arrangement.

Showing WC1 and WC4 alongside the larger bathrooms makes the range of the drawing work clearer. The complete source set below includes the remaining room details and schedules for closer review.

The driver building brings sitting space, accommodation and sanitary facilities into a linear arrangement. The ground and roof plans provide a common reference for section and elevation development.

The façade and building sections describe the same architectural sequence. Openings, levels and the sanitary edge are shown together to support coordination rather than leaving the building represented by a plan alone.

The bathroom package progresses from fixture planning to floor layout, internal elevation and section. Together these drawings communicate the sanitary arrangement at a scale that can be read and discussed in detail.

My contribution included the architectural layout and AutoCAD development of these drawings, structural coordination, and initial MEP coordination on pipe routes. This experience strengthened the connection between designing a layout and communicating it within a multidisciplinary practice.

The additional longitudinal and transverse sections describe the driver building from further cut lines. They connect the linear arrangement of rooms with roof edges, openings and internal partitions.

The sanitary sections complete the progression from the building envelope to the scale of individual fixtures. The full drawing set is available below, so the selected details can also be read in their original sheet context.
