An original cultural and commercial proposal, developed from a brief into a connected sequence of public rooms, terraces and shared outdoor space.
A public address at the water’s edge
The Haneda-area setting connects the cultural-exchange brief to a landscape of arrival, infrastructure and water. The project brings visitors into a shared courtyard before distributing them between learning, exhibition, consultation and informal gathering.
The site observation records the open ground and water edge. The plans that follow explain how the courtyard, public rooms and terraces respond to this setting.
From brief to place
The project begins with a cultural-exchange brief: bring exhibition, learning, consultation and everyday gathering into one architectural setting. The central courtyard gives those different activities a shared address. Rather than treating circulation as leftover space, the proposal uses the route around this open centre to connect the public rooms.
The ground floor combines exhibition, library, café, information and support spaces. The upper level introduces consultation rooms, offices, a stage, art space and terraces. Their relationship is communicated through two floor plans, so the building can be read as an organized program as well as a visual composition.
An idea tested in section
The sections describe the relationship between roofs, occupied floors and the courtyard void. These drawings connect the overall form to the scale of the rooms beneath it. Together with the plans, they show how the architectural concept develops beyond an exterior image.
Terraces and the upper deck extend the shared route outdoors. The library and café offer contrasting settings for quiet study and informal gathering within the same proposal.
Take the building apart
An exploded view separates the roof, enclosure and occupied floors. It makes the project’s organization visible: public activities are arranged around the open centre, while the roof gathers rooms and terraces into a larger composition.
The cutaway diagram complements the technical sections. Where the plans describe adjacency and circulation, this view reveals the depth of the courtyard and the relationship between the roof profile and the rooms below.
Three ways to occupy the building
The library, café and upper deck communicate the material and social character of the project. Warm interior surfaces, daylight and places to sit give the larger architectural organization a human scale.
This project demonstrates my ability to develop an original proposal from program and circulation into a coordinated set of drawings and spatial views.
